Frequently asked questions

How many open access general linguistics journals charge no APC?

This directory lists 9 journals covering general linguistics that charge no article processing charge. The list is built from the keywords each journal publishes about itself, so it reflects scope rather than a single subject classification.

How do I pick a general linguistics journal for my paper?

Start with scope: read the aims and the two most recent issues to check your paper fits. Then compare the indexing databases your institution recognises, the peer review model, the licence and whether you keep copyright, and the typical time to publication. All of those are shown on each journal page here.

Are these journals really free to publish in?

Yes. Every journal in this directory charges no article processing charge. Some may still levy other fees such as submission or page charges — those are shown separately on each journal page, and you can filter to journals with no other fees at all.
